BAS: What You Need to Know

BIG-Charlotte hosted its first official class, What You Need to Know About BAS, on October 14 at Hoffman Building Technologies, and what an incredible turnout!

Sponsored by Hoffman Building Technologies and Distech Controls, this session brought together professionals from across the Charlotte building intelligence community for an evening of learning, discussion, and collaboration.

Building Foundation and Future

The session was co-led by Robert Fergione, Business Development Manager at Hoffman Building Technologies, and Jason Townsend, Regional Sales Manager at Distech Controls. Together, they brought more than 25 years of combined BAS experience to the room, covering the fundamentals, exploring real-world applications, and sparking open discussion about the future of building automation.

Robert and Jason began by breaking down the basics: what Building Automation Systems (BAS) are, why they matter, and how they impact smarter, more efficient building performance. From there, the conversation evolved into a deeper dive on integration, emerging technologies, and the opportunities and challenges shaping today’s BAS industry.

Their presentation struck the perfect balance between education and engagement, offering clarity for newcomers while challenging experienced professionals to think differently about how BAS connects to larger building performance goals.

Community & Continuing Education

Attendees earned 1 Professional Development Hour (PDH) credit and enjoyed refreshments provided by Distech Controls. The event also offered valuable networking time and a chance for members of Charlotte’s building intelligence community to connect, collaborate, and share ideas.
